I have a golden hop in my garden which I planted about  6 or 7 years ago. I love the way itcovers my trellis every summer but itis now becoming a thug.I had alook at it today with a view to reducing it, but don't know where to start. The main stem is about 4 inches in diameter and has several thick branches comingoffit.Any ideas?

We used to live near a hop garden years ago and they hacked them down and the hops just grew back.

It is beautiful though isn,t it ?  Mine climbs up into a cherry tree every year along with a Paul's Scarlet climbing rose and when they both flower  look sensational .  Folk are always glad to have a piece of it too . Debbie    :)

Someone gave me a cutting of a hop but it doesn't look too good at the moment. Do they propagate easily or would I praps be better buying the whole plant from a nursery
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

A rooted cutting should be fine.....it wont do much the first year ,then woosh next year it will take off .     I haven,t ever needed to take unrooted cuttings as it is so easy to pull off a bit with a root ! Debs
