Our M&S closes on Thursday so I won't be buying anything there anymore.

I can just about see my rhubarb growing it's all happening fast...not interested in the forced stuff don't like it sweet!

It is a joy to go round the shops when you have plenty of stuff yourself saying, 'look at the price of that!'

I can't say that I would have paid that,  so can not say that I have saved it.

Years ago, when I grew too much, I took a few surplus cabbages to work and let the girls have them. One told me after. I bought one from M&S last week for a £1 and do you know yours was every bit as good?

saddad

I agree Zig-Zag, you look at soft fruit prices and say surely nobody pays that...
and conversely OH, who is very good at handicrafts etc, knits an Arran and says that saved you £xxx I say no it doesn't, as at £xxx I wouldn't have bought one...   ::)

Levi

What are you like saddad!! I think she should confiscate all your woollies for a month or so for that, see if ya can survive in t-shirts. You can't beat a nice natural arran, I'm well attached to a cardi that someone knitted me when I was 17, older than my sprog and I'll be gutted when it goes back to the earth.

well that's M&S for you expensive? what's better than picking a few sticks of your own and cooking with it and eating it the sames day.
I can sew and knit ( not Arran) but look at the way clothes are finished off saying they want X amount for that. I am always shocked at prices.

saddad

OH was looking at "Designer" wedding dresses for some reason  ???
and did nothing but criticise the seams....  ;D

teresa

Saddad your OH is right they cannot sew straight, then there's the hems, zips and best of all  the buttonholes. Beautiful material trashed and they want a lot of money for it. They want to bring the crafts back into schools so the kids of tommore can see where there money is going. Oh it makes my blood boil.
Just the same as garden centres 10 cabbage plants, so easy to grow and they want the earth. Money for old rope comes to mind. heee heee

manicscousers

the garden centre near us was selling PLUG PLANTS of toms, chillies etc for £1.00 each  :o
worse still, there were lots of people with baskets full  ::)
hope they all know they need heat

ceres

Here was me thinking this thread was about how delicious my first rhubarb of the season looks  ???

manicscousers

sorry, Ceres, we're all just jealous  :)
it looks gorgeous, mine is about 6" tall under it's forcing bucket so, in a week, maybe 2's time  :P ;D

Ant

ah good old M&S....

I remember wandering round the food aisles and almost exploding with rage/mirth at "Organic White breadcrumbs" £2 for 200g  ;D

I seem to remember the phrase "what bloody idiot would buy that?" issuing forth, much to the disgust of some posh woman who had some in her basket and tutted at me  ;D ;D

teresa

Oh Ceres yours looks beautiful how's the taste mines poking through not forced ( it would be pinched if it was like yours) so bide my time.
Oh Ant remarks like that you could be banned from M&S ha ha some have more money than sence at times.
Miss Whiplash I havent seen plugs at the moment but its the fault of GC they should display signs to keep them inside but dont punters will put them outside and a night of frost and they have to go back for more. More money for GC shame on them.
