My auto vent only lasted a few years. Is there any way to re-charge these expensive rascals?
They have some sort of chemical that expands at a certain temp.

I've tried googling to get info but can find none.

Would appreciate any help other than buy a new one.  ;D

They are usually filled with wax which lasts about 6-7 years (less if the vents are left in place during the winter).

Have you checked the manufacturers website some companies sell spares although parts are not always cheap they are cheaper than replacing the entire autovent.

I am sure I read somewhere, possibly on here that if you put the cylinder in the freezer that can sometimes sort it out.

Not the freezer, just the fridge.  :)

They stopped making things that last when they realised we stopped buying them when we had one that kept working.

Maddening isn't it? We have a freezer- we've had it 35 + yrs  now, and bought it used so we don't know its actual age. It has never needed servicing.

When it dies it is doubtful we'd ever find another with its longevity.

We ended up having to order a replacement tube for our vent.  Thank you for all the suggestions. :D
