Just wondered if anyone else was still pulling parsnips?

I thought I'd had them all. But after seeing just bare soil for a couple of months there must have been some left in there and they started sprouting green again. To let me know they were there I guess... bless them! must be 8 or 10  8)

Here's 2 I pulled for a stew yesterday morning.

Yes, I've just got back from digging over beds, one of which was supposed to be empty of parsnips (or so my son told me).  I dug up a bucketful and decided to leave well alone and move on to another bed !!!

I pulled the last line of nips out on Sunday, I pulled out about 60 but the middle bit is woody so I composted 10 of the smaller ones and froze a load of them and give some away.  ;D ;D ;D

I cleared a bed today for my new raspberries. Dug up half a dozen snips but they didn't look like those. I think they were waiting for the next Dr Who auditions.

Sow it, grow it, eat it.

We were given some old parsnips, nice and big, so the middles came out quite easily and we put these middles in to the stock she said they would be hard.

They were soft when they had stewed for a bit with the chicken bones so they got shunted into the oven to roast off. It worked.

Waste not want less.

Excellent looking parsnips though... the centres will go hard, they have a 5-6' flower stalk to support later in the season, but even after they have started to sprout a flower stalk all the surrounding tissue can be eaten...  :)

I wish! Only had 4 or 5 in total last season. :(

i couldnt pull any of my four rows of parsnips because not one germinated  ???

hey, I never gave it a thought the centres could be woody....
the whole lot went in the stew and they were beautiful!  ;D  ;D  ;D

Still have parsnips and probably will continue to harvest for next few weeks. Spicy parsnip soup or Parsnip and bacon soup is nice.
