egg trays are an ideal solution for a few spuds. yes they do need the light, otherwise they will grow long and spindly growth to try and find the light! these are beside my bed! (It's the only spare space)

My understanding is that they need light, but not direct sunlight.  Is that correct?

Correct,  they need to sprout little purple(ish), dark, not white shoots. North facing is best

Tonybloke, when will those spuds be ready to go in? Won't the shoots get too big before the weather warms up?

Mine have started chitting in their bags but I'm trying to hold them off until the weather perks up a bit... Which doesn't look as if it's going to be any time soon the way it's snowing outside right now.

Put them in the cold garage, that'll curb their enthusiasm to chit. When you want them to start chitting, bring them into the light.

some in a couple of weeks (in a cold frame) the rest in early / mid march, dependant on weather
