When I get home next month I will have 7 months worth of jobs to catch up on around the plot.  Luckily I will get 6 weeks holiday as a one off.  So once the kids are back at school in January I will get cracking....... in between the list of jobs my wife will have waiting for me of course;D ;D

we've dug the runner trenches, gotta do the squash pits but plenty of time for that..ray's sorting out the bath pond..should be good, at least it won't empty, he's also digging the drain off ditch a bit deeper and further , moving plants into the tunnel that won't survive the cold and wet  ;D

squash pit's a bit like runner bean trench, dig a hole, fill with muck, kitchen waste, shredded paper, mound the soil that you took out over the pit, plant on the top of it, bury a cut off 2ltr pop bottle next to it  ;D
we put a tyre over the pit and heap the soil in it..keeps the squash plant away from the wind and I can cover it with fleece if it gets cold but not everyone has tyres  ;D
sounds like a hole filled with juice  ;D

What's the plastic bottle for? When do you plant your squash seeds/plants?

Hyacinth

I'm guessing that the bottle is to water to the roots -  or for ray to apply liquid fertilizer ;D

You got any pictures of the squash pit? I've always grown mine in large flower pots with the bottoms cut off. I dig a hole large enough to accomodate the pot then fill with compost and transplant the squash into it. Makes it easier to water....

Your way sound much better!! Would like to give it a try    :-*
