:-\ What is the best way to store bottles, jugs and demijohns to keep dirt and stuff from getting inside?

If you leave the top open dirt and dust would get inside.
If you put a cap or stopper on any dampness or condensation would cause mold inside?

Upside down?

Not easy to balance them like that, though.

Get a clever person to whip you up a rack to hold them upside down?

I store mine the right way up, and then give them a wash before I sterilize them the next time I use them.

pop down to your local supermarket and buy a big o bag of rice - placing half a kilo of long grain rice in the tub sealed - the rice would absobs the moisture reducing the humidity - reducing any molds growth, making the cleaning job less work before the next use

I take it you intend to store drinks or pickles in the glassware.

Having put so much effort into brewing, wine making and pickling, I daren't cut corners on hygiene. I wash all glassware till it is bright, then rinse with VWP (from brew shops) or sodium metabisulphate. Close or cover  the glassware and store it away.

Before filling, I rinse the glassware again with VWP or sodium metabisulphate.
