bug box

I have been given a bug box for a b/day pressie.
I am just wondering exactly where to put it in the garden??
Should I put it in the veg patch itself? I was gonna put it on the shed, which would shelter it from the weather but its 2 meters away from the bird feeders, would the birds eat my bugs? The shed is the opp end to the veg patch. Also what height would be a good position?

I've got one on my shed, I think they mostly creep around around at night when all the birds are sleeping...                 :-\
