I might have some to spare...
Bought too many as usual.
Not planted them yet so dont know how many I will have leftover.

You will have to remind me in a couple of weeks though, apt to forget. :-\

Robert_Brenchley

Get them and plant them ASAP, as if you leave it they won't have time to establish themselves before winter.

how many do you need, Will D..our association still has 3 bags of red, mind you, the postage might be a bit steep, 2.50 per bag, about 100 sets..would have to find out about p&p

tempted but I don't think I have enough room. Got some in already and overdone the garlic haven't I!!! If I put in more I'll have no room for spring planted onions.

It needs at least a month at below 10C, so it's sensible to put it in now if you can.

Others will have views. Personally, I wouldn't dig manure into the soil now. It's best to dig some in the summer before an October planting, to give the worms a good chance to get to work on it.  If you are planning to mulch, which is probably a good thing to do soon after planting, you need to avoid anything that is too thick and heavy. Very well rotted and composted manure should be all right as long as you're sure it hasn't got any harmful toxins in it. Some people swear by fresh grass clippings, although I haven't tried that myself.

Some of my garlic went in yesterday.

One of my garden books says...Plant garlic on the shortest day of the year (21st December) and harvest on the longest (21st June)  ???   ::)
