Rhubarb what sort

Does all rhubarb taste the same?   I have grown the same for years but I am looking at the new catalogues and thinking of getting some new plants if it would have a  better flavour.  Any info. thankyou.

There is a new one called Strawberry, that has won awards for flavour. I grow this and the old large variety called Victoria as it is so prolific. It has rather green stems and goes well if mixed with apple, as it is good flavoured but not very inspiring. Look on Brandy Carr website. Its amazing. They even sell liquorice plants too!

I grow Timperley Early and Victoria.  By having a spring and summer variety means I harvest rhubarb from April - August.  Never really took  much notice of a taste difference for rhubarb to be honest.

Took this photo at Wisley in August... it's their Rhubarb in the trial field. Each plant is a different variety... doesn't help much but it does confirm there's a huge choice!

Many thanks .  I did not know there were early and late types.   I hope to go to Wisley next month.  I will enquire about the trials.  So will look for the ones suggested.  Thanks again.

We too grow Timperley and Victoria, and they're both good and productive.

I also got hold of a few crowns of Glaskins Perpetual a couple of years ago.  These are highly recommended.  I'm not sure whether they really taste that different, but the stems are a nice red colour, which cooks to an attractive pink.

No they don't all taste the same. I bought some timperley early and found some rhubarb growing on the track behind my plot. I planted both, the unknown variety is now a huge plant but tasteless compared to the Timperley. I've just planted some strawberry as well.....thanks for the name the label had rotted off in the pot....i thought it was Strawberry something but it's just strawberry. :)
