i planted some Atlantic giant pumpkins 3 weeks ago and they still haven't germinated any suggestions on how to get them started?

They should have come up in a few days.

Maybe they are too cold or too wet (and will have rotted).

Try them with a bit of warmth, airing cupboard, above a radiator or cover with a plastic bag or cling film.
My giants took a while to come through I seem to remember.

Always best in a heated propagater... or airing cupboard.. we have four pots of various squash refusing to germinate, I bet they've rotted off!  >:(

How are all your Atlantic Giant pumpkins doing?  I mistakenly planted four plants.....and I now have a mass of pumpkin plants overtaking my vege garden.  Each plant seems to have one very well established pumpkin, with many smaller ones.
We used to live about 10 mins. from the Dill Giant Atlantic Pumpkin Farm in Nova Scotia (T&M get their seeds from him) and were lucky enough to get his deseeded pumpkins for Halloween - and yes, a child aged 8 can easily fit inside them :)

I planted one AG among my 'normal' squash plants and it has smothered them!  I can't see the soil through the leaves but I think I spotted a fairly big pumpkin hiding in a corner. In another area of the allotment I planted an AG on its own and that one is a bit easier to manage.  It has one biggish pumpkin on so I'm taking all the small ones off as they appear. Our giant pumpkin competition is on October 12th but I don't think I'll have one as big as the 160lb one I had 3 or 4 years ago.

I have 4 huge pumpkins - almost 1 meter wide!

The only problem is that 1 of the 4 has recently rotted - how can I stop this?

I have put straw under the remaining 3, but that is looking a bit soggy and they are really heavy to lift!

Also, I am worried that putting objects under the pumpkins will only make them mishapen.

Any ideas?

VegieBird

If I was to cut off the pumpkins now, would they store in a cool dry place long enough for Halloween?

saddad

Should do vegiebird, esp if you can get them under glass to bake the skins in this dry/sunny snap...  ;D

I've got two big 'uns.
I think they are on two different plants, but it's hard to tell.
I haven't weighed or measured them yet though.

You need to cure them in a warm place till the skins are hard, then when cured store in a cool place

Warm to cure..cool to store.
