Rose Chafer Beetle

Next door's left over leeks have been swarming with insects this summer - this was the prettiest.  I thought at first it was the rare noble chafer but no such luck!  Strange that something so pretty can be responsible for the disgusting grubs you find in the soil.

It stayed on that same allium for at least 36 hours that I saw.  It just moved from one little flower bud to the next.

hi llb i have seen them a lot, but not much this year, don't know why. but the are beautiful.

It was pretty big - just over an inch long I think.  I think they're native but I hadn't seen one before either.  They are beautiful, I'll be looking out for them in future.

I photographed them on ragwort during the summer while walking the pembrokeshire coastal path. Was going to send it to countryfile comp but too slow...it would have been identical to the bumblebee photo but with a Rose Chafer beetle.
They are spectacular.
