the stalk and leaves look very similar to my tomatillos outside - that also produce papery covered fruits like this - or similar fruits anyway. Is flower of peru related to tmoatoes/tomatillos/cape gooseberries???

Yes, I think so.  They are all  from the Solanaceae family.
