Does anyone know where this can be had in the UK, without paying postage more than the cost of the syrup?

This is known as Glucose syrup or Liquid Glucose, I believe. If you want a small amount, Supercook do it, have seen this on sale at Tesco etc. You could get it online at http://www.squires-shop.com/ibf/index.php?p=product&id=2711&parent=0  or you can ask your local Boots or pharmacy to order it in for you - it can be cheaper this way.

Thanks lbb, but I don't think that substitute will do the trick unfortunately.

Jenny, do you know if liquid glucose is volume for volume equivalent please?  Reason for asking is I've used liquid glucose before and it comes in a teeny tiny pot, whereas the corn syrup is in a big bottle!  Not very scientific, but it just seems odd?

I have 2 500ml bottles of Karo light corn syrup left over from a chocolate wedding cake I made. I bought them from ebay, the postage not being prohibitive when I ordered 7 bottles at once. I'll look into the real cost of posting you a bottle.

If you have a bottle to spare that would be wonderful!  I could do Paypal/cheque/bank transfer etc.  I tried 3 supermarkets and 3 health food shops locally, no joy.  Searched around online and it's scarcer than hen's teeth with ridiculous postage.

Thanks lbb, it's confectionery.

Ceres, am sure I have substituted golden syrup for corn syrup, and looking on the net I found this! (which is handy!)

Thanks DP.  I'd seen similar.  I think sugar syrup might work in baking but corn syrup has different properties to sugar syrup which I think are needed for what I have in mind.  I don't want to make an expensive mistake!

Hi

My American friend substitutes golden syrup for corn syrup and she says it works the same ....

I find golden syrup too thick to substitute so I use maple syrup XX Jeannine
