painting/spraying a fence

Can anyone reccommend a sprayer to use on my fence.  There seems to be several different ones which vary in price.  Is it a case of you get what you pay for?   Any advice please.

Our neighbours sprayed the fence and it went all up our walls and over the windows, a drive width away. :o  He came round to tell us what a wonderful gadget it was and then looked at our wall.  He went bright red!!  I think it was a cuprinol one.

Spraying is always a wasteful way to apply anything, in your case, leaving the operator open to legal action. I am a retired decorator and had to have Public Liability Insurance to cover this. I would always apply this type of thing by brush, even putting cloth dustsheets over the plants. I never once had a claim against my insurance. It was because of stupid people spraying creosote that it was banned.

Thanks for the replies.  The info. on the tin of "paint"  says not suitable for sprayers.  So it has to be the brush.  Thanks again.

There are some very cheap brushes available now. Brown plastic handles with white bristles, the type we used to call "Block" brushes (about 4 inches wide), cost about £2.99 at Morrisons. When I think what I used to pay for Hamilton brushes I can't believe how cheap they are. Of course, those days the Communist Government of China (the largest producer of bristles) controlled the export of them severely, the present Chinese Govt. are not so strict so the price has come down.

Dead right. I was an industrial painter for many years and still have some beauty Hamilton Congo's in my brush box. These days I tend to buy cheap for my part-time deco jobbies, use once and throw away unless it's a water based paint I used. White spirit costs more than a new brush.
A roller could be an option on a large fence, but roll slow to prevent spattering.

We tried a spray paint machine and thought it was useless!You still have to cut in and I was really worried about the amount of paint going into the air!!! :o
It still made me cough even with the mask on!
I took it back to B&Q and got a refund
