Try chocolate B&B for a special occasion!

...pannatone and butter pud would be p&b, tho?  :P

I thought it was brioche & butter pud, but now I've got a yearning for bread&butter pud, Tim....dried fruit? Lemon zest?

.......maple syrup instead of lemon or marmalade and a splodge of cream to serve.............

Alishka - yes!! Sultanas/Currants mix. The AGA recipe.
No - not cream - CUSTARD!!

Hyacinth

Agree with custard 8) Taking an old tried and true and adding/substituting a bit of this/a bit of that makes a nice dish - but sometimes it travels too far from the original - and sometimes it's the original we want? Now than....crusts of bread...on or off LOL

 ;D

Crusts on, deffo. But then I like the pud made with brown bread and marmalade, osborne pudding? Some would say that it's heresy, but I hate dried fruit!

8)

You could always soak the fruit like you do with Marmalade!!

Nigella does her's with ginger marmalade  :)

Whichever, the essence is the toasted crust balancing the egg custard.
