go on then, since youre asking, id love some flower seeds please! if theyve not already gone :)
the slugs ate several lots of poppys this yr (bladdy things) and are making attempts at what i thought were rudbeckias, but theyre trying to flower??? didnt think they were meant to in theyre 1st yr??? am wandering now if maybe ive got some kind of weed instead, they certainly dont look very rudbeckiaish???  plus all our sunflowers got eaten (again!!!) so hopefully these are a close compromise? (my poor sons face when he asked where theyd all gone! i thought wed snuck one past them but that last downpour and they found it climbed up 2ft and chomped the developing flower head a bit, n then it started to wilt and flop and i noticed theyd nibbled the base aswell, grrr, everyone on my rd has the same problem, grrr, i need choocks to eat the slugs....i do....)
if youd like anything by return i can send some guaranteed slug proof antirhinum seeds when theyre ready (overwintered??) and some aqualegia, flowers were all double headed pink ones this yr and the seeds are ready now :) dont know why the slugs eat everything else and leave these but they do!
either way many thanx georgie! the kids would love a parcel to cheer them up :) i think next yr ill be trying more flowers down the allotment for them, my youngest is over the moon at her pink cornflowers and eldest with his red sweetpeas! just wish i knew how to sort the slugs in the garden, and cheaply, egg shells didnt seem to work :(

Hi LLL.  PM your details and I'll get the seeds in the post.  There's lots of advice on coping with slugs and snails elsewhere on the forum.  I agree that egg shells don't work, in fact none of the barrier methods really work IMHO as many slugs live in the soil, not on it.  And it's worth remembering that a lot of slugs do more good than harm, only eating decaying matter or other slugs!  I'm organic and I won't kill them unless things get really bad, then I pick them off at dusk and drop them in a bucket of very hot water - far kinder than salt.  Beer traps work well (if necessary) and frogs and birds do their bit.  I don't use pellets - even the organic ones - as these attract slugs. :o  But generally I just leave them to it.  Also I tend to grow things that they don't eat - and there's plenty to choose from - or grow more plants than I need as sacrificial plants.  Hope this helps.   :)

Hi Lorna.  Glad they arrived safely.  I think Swan River Daisies are sown in April but I see no reason why you shouldn't try sowing a few now for over wintering in your greenhouse.  What have you got to lose?

 ;D thankyou georgie!! my 4yr old fetched the post today and saw the letter and said thats for me? he was sooo chuffed when i said yes and they tore into the envelope, elodie has bagged the pink poppies running off and kissing the packet, lol, but she is only 2 and ds has nabbed the ruddbeckia so thatll keep them busy come spring :) i think they may find themselves planted in theyre lil plot up the allotment, where theres less slugs :) many many thanx again!
