now...i hug trees with the best of them-i don't use plastic bags,cycle wherever possible,re-cycle rubbish etc,what can i say-i'm a peacenik...
but on the allotment i wage war on slugs-its them or me >:(!
like a lot of us here(i think)the lottie is essential to my economic welfare-not to mention my physical and mental health-
but there is a growing band of 'slughuggers on our lottie!!

one carries the slugs carefully in a bucket and releases them'into the wild'-which usually means someone elses plot-several say'but they are living creatures!'
many frown dissapointedly when they see me with the saltywater bucket....

i use organic pellets resposibly and encourage frogs and toads but the few of us who commit slugicide are looked on as
the steven segal of the allotments...
i've posted this in 'edible'because i want edibles not pre=slugged veg-having lost kohl rabbi,a fair quantity of attes and lots of salad to the slimy nuisance ,and having had a 'run-in'with a slughugger-whats your opinion?
anyone else had 'advice' of the' live and let live ' sort....or is mine the only lottie site with lunatics-sorry caring folk on it??

so,slug....do you feel lucky punk?? 8)

I am saddled with illegal immigrants that slide in at night from adjoining unkempt plots which have a lower standard of living and higher birthrate.

They expect handouts of free food and shelter and unlike humans appear to bring no benefit with them, I have yet to see one usefully employed indeed they hang about in gangs in the evening creating mayhem.

As in human communities there are PC do-gooders who appear to encourage them without considering the conflict seething below the surface.

Long live slug pellets.

dont be fooled by the name I am a Lady!! :-*

Any slug caught in the polytunnel gets sentenced to death by big boot. Execution is immediate with no right of appeal.

Yep - pellets for me too.  Loved the video allaboutliverpool - it is a huge plot.

Take no prisoners is what i say, kill them all and let god sort it out
When you wake up on a morning say "good morning world" and be grateful

Apart from a few pellets when I first sow carrot seeds, I let mine party once a week and that's it.

Smashing video allaboutliverpool, how do you get your sweetcorn to grow so tall, I've grown them 3 years now and cant seem to get them more than two feet high. As for slugs what i collect goes onto the green across the road lots of satisfaction gained in watching them get eaten by the blackbirds and thrushes ;D.

cornykev

Death to the slugs, off with their heads.  ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

I collect them carefully making sure that they don't come to any harm from both my house garden and up the lottie!

I then, very carefully place these dear  snails on a piece of wood in the chicken run and very carefull aim a hefty blow on their shells so that my chooks can get at them!  They can manage the slugs without my hammering them!

There is a good degree of protein in there for my girls!

My one chook at home and I go on slug and snail hunts too!  Great fun!  We cluck dutifully at each other and the rate of cluck goes up when we spy either a slug, snail, woodlouse, spider in fact just about anything that crawls in and around the earth and then she scoffs it! Fantastic fun!

the plot next to mine is hideously overgrown, but I don't get much of a slug problem. I think it's too tangled up for then to find their way out.

jonny211

Once I catch mine I then 'free' them in the chickens run  ;D

If they make it out the other side you have to give them a full pardon.

That's always been the case with anyone who survived their execution. If the rope broke, the trap wouldn't fall, or they were still alive when they were cut down (which happened often enough for 18th Century hospitals to have policies about who had to pay for their treatment), then they were let off.

littlebabybird

I have slug nematoads (sp)
they are great,

Hi Littlebabybird

I think we would all have nematodes if we could afford them - unfortunately they are hideously expensive and short lived!

ok....i tried this in the interests of fairness to the slugs-but the calculation of weight and drop were beyond me-plus,tieing the noose small enough was too much for my fat fingers-and where is a slugs neck anyway?they are ALL bloomin' neck!
asfor nematodes....i prefer using real toads!-they are cheaper!

the battle continues...
