Those among you who feel strongly that the government should intervene to save Bletchley Park for the nation are invited to sign an e-petition aimed at prompting just such action.

The petition states: "Please do not allow this crucial piece of both British and World culture to disappear. If ever an example were needed of Britain leading the world, this surely would be it. To allow it to fall into the hands of developers would be simply unconscionable."

How appalling!! My Dad spent the war there as part of the enigma team. I've signed of course.

Only in this country places of this importance come under threat.
This place virtually won the war for us by cracking the German codes.
Despite what hollywood tell us.
And yes I have signed it now

As I understand it, the Bletchley Park Trust was given a 250 year lease within the last few years. So what's gone wrong?

What's this all about?  Can't see anything on their website about it needing to be saved.   ???  Latest news was a visit from Chas & Camilla a few days ago.

I would like to point out that the hut in question does not appear in my photo's. I attended lectures in that hut in the 1970's when working for BT. As someone with experience in the building industry I can imagine the condition of that hut now. After all, it is over 65 years old and has not been maintained since the 1990's at least.

I hope it is saved, but I doubt whether it's really worth the cost. It will require extensive re-building by now, so it will not be the original hut.

The petition reads as if the whole of Bletchley Park is to be sold off to developers.  I take it this isn't the case, then?  Highly misleading if so.

I only found the link as there was something on the local news a couple of weeks back.

Bletchley Park is a very large area, The 250 lease is on the Mansion as far as I know. It may or may not include some of the surrounding park but the total park is far more extensive. We camped on site a few years ago and there was a mobile tank demo. and manouvre going on as well. This was on an "open area", there are various ranges of buildings on site as well, including three tower blocks (by the railway). These were bed/sit/office accommodation for people attending courses.

I believe that the appeal is only relating to the "Colossus" hut.
