Wishing to planting something before winter, especially strawberry runners for next year I came across onion and shallot sets for sale on tinternet for planting in August along with a selection of brassica plants. I thought onion sets were for feb / march planting. Anyone planted sets in August?

 Hi all,
NO :o seems far too early to me for overwintering onions, I won`t be planting mine until end of September/early October. This year had great results with electric red HEAT TREATED, these did not bolt.

I have only just planted in the last couple of weeks my young winter brassica plants but onions? yes surely October at least...
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com
