Well done! Hard work but worth it. Don't bother planting anything before your holiday as you wont be around to water it but when you get back sow some salad crops to give you a quick result and make it all seem worthwhile. Overwintering onion sets can go in in October and Aquadulce broad beans in October/November will give you a good supply in spring. The beauty of both is that one they are planted they need very little attention. All available from any of the gardening catalogues but Marshalls is one of my favourites as they are very reliable.

Have a great holiday!

After making the decision not to plant this year on my new plot, i have  now found out through here and other sources that i can plant veggies now...

Been out shopping.... got peas, broad beans, carrots, salad leaves, all seeds, and cabbage, cauliflower and brocoli plants,.... chose varieties that will over winter.... will get onion sets soon...

My vegetable and herb expert book arrived today as well...

Looks like the the addiction has started....!!

No turning back now the bug has bitten ;D Good luck, but as people had advised don't try to do too much at a time.

And if the book you've got is the Dr Hessayon one, that's a great choice!

Just noticed you're in Congleton- I'm sitting here with a "Black Firs school" mug designed by my brother when he was the Head there (or was it deputy, it was a few years ago!)I'm from Cheadle Hulme myself! Are you off to Tatton Show for more inspiration?

Rhubarb Thrasher

you forgot the Radox, the bite-cream, the sticking plasters, tetanus jabs..........

Caroline... not going to Tatton this year..  My plot is in Alsager which is 15 mins away...no plots available in Congleton at the moment....

Will re-stock the first aid box asap!

Back down on Thursday to do more digging... roped in the parents to help out!!
