I think a lot of us one here ended up pretty unimpressed with freecycle... don't know why you're having problems though, sorry!

Local freecycle owners have scope to make their own rules, and when you give some people power they can turn into little Hitlers!  Some London groups are positively draconian in enforcing postcode rules - you can only join a particular group if you live in a tightly defined area.  Some groups will ban you from their group if you are a member of another group.

Have you read the home page for the group you tried to join to see if there are any restrictions?  If there aren't email the owner (addy on the home page) and ask why you are being turned down.  If you don't get a reply, look for a neighbouring group to join.

Freecycle when it works as it was supposed to is great for allotmenteers - I've had loads of useful stuff.  Also check out any skips around your area - but ask before you take!

I would ask them why you were refused.
In your area there are 4/5 freecycle groups -
ashfield, mansfield, chesterfield, retford and nottingham

just be careful with the mansfield one make sure you try the uk one
when i first tried i got a reply from the one in mansfield, alabama, usa

the sites do work and its a very good idea and I haven't had any problems so far.
good luck steve

I think the ones that make the extra rules are probably because they were taken over by people who were making money by selling the stuff on ebay.
And genuine people (like us) never got a look in.

LOL, I was once refused and when I contacted the admin, they said that they thought Manchester USA was little far for me to travel for other peoples free rubbish ... I thought I was applying for Manchester UK  :D :-[

I still think freecycle is brilliant- no complaints about my local group in York. Hope you get sorted out, liza.
