Can anyone tell me what this is?

Hi Peeps,not been on for a while but I'm stumped with this fly.It was walking up our kitchen window this evening,it's about 20mm long.Although it looks a bit like a bee there's no sting.Ignore the date,it was taken today.Honest!

Thanks for the reply,ninnyscrops.I've actually found it now in a similar question on another forum.It's a Volucella Pellucens a species of hover fly. :)
