Hi there,

I've been lurking for a while, reading your posts - fantastic source of useful information.  I don't have an allotment but will be converting the garden somewhat come Autumn; we moved in end 2007 and are spending the year watching what grows and then how to redesign - a 'grow your own' section will very much be order of the day!

I now have a question - what can I grow in growbags?  I have two and I'm having a bit of a crisis of confidence about what can go in them as they aren't deep.

Thanks very much!

Grow? Now, or generally? Why bags, if you have a garden? Do you have 'protection'?

Tomatoes
Peppers
Cucumbers
Aubergines
Courgettes
Lettuce, Salad Leaves, Radish
StumpCarrots
etc

See the posts on what you can sow/plant now. And suppliers of plants for a quick start.

I got the growbags thinking they'd be a good idea, and have since wondered what to use them for.  We're currently working through renovating the house so the garden, alas, is not priority.  I've put some tomato plants in pots, I have potted on cucumbers in our 'mini-greenhouse' (aka plastic covered shelving unit) and have two growbags to use.  I've been incredibly late to summer fruiting produce, I've always been a tomatoes/potatoes/runner beans gal, but am now keen to cultivate an 'all year round' mentality!

So, my question was a general 'what can one grow in a growbag' but also what's pertinent to now.  I shall have a browse around the site for ideas.

Markfield Rover - thanks for the tip
Steve - I promise to stop lurking!
Tim - have I seen you were in the RAF?  I'm a ex-RAFman's daughter, although I won't ask if you will have known my Dad  ;)

Many thanks, and have a good weekend.
