Printer won't print

I've got an Epson DX3800 printer that won't print.

the paper goes through, and you can hear the carriage whizzing backwards and forwards, but no ink is getting on to the paper.  On one occasion, there were some very faint traces of yellow.

Yes, there is ink in the cartridges!

Any offers?  The Ink light is flashing.

does it have a all in one cartridge or do you have seperate colour ones?
Sometimes mine does that so i go into the maintenance section and run checks like nozzle check etc
sometimes the nozzles become blocked

if cleaning doesnt work then there are two options a as mentioned certain of the colours may be out so only some colours can be achieved or b the ink has dried out in the cartridge happens if not used very often, if you have another try a different cartridge this should tell you if its the cartridge or the printer
