I have some lettuce seedlings ready to be planted out on the allotment. Should I cover with fleece as soon as they have been planted ? I haven't had much success with lettuce so far >:( What should I be feeding them with ?

I do not fleece ,it's the sluggies you have to watch for.Water well and they should be okay  they are quite tough it is the heat they do not like. I dont feed much either a little slow release once a season.

I plant my loose leaf and romaine in tubs that can be moved into the shade when it gets too hot. The tub is filled with lots of aged manure and kept moist will keep producing lots of lettuce, less bolting into flower this way and very clean and easy to pick.

If it was me Duke, I'd plant them where they get a bit of shade from aonther veg.  Make a hole and put loads of water in it, plant the lettuce and put some slug/snail stuff down.  Really no need to feed them at all and don't water for a while, so long as you put lots of water in the hole before you plant them, they should be fine.

I grow my toms in big pots together with lettuces ( as cut and come again) and calendula, Have done this with my cucumbers too and they appear to be very happy growing together - all vigorous.
By the way Duke  -I love your little animation. Where did you get it from???
