At last my raspberries are beginning to turn colour - BUT - my 4 year old row and a few of my other rows are looking and behaving oddly!

The fruit is ripening in some places and staying green'ish/turning to mouldy colour in other parts.  The branches are also looking a bit sick!

Does anyone know what is wrong?  The fruits are just edible although I think would go properly mouldy if left on the plants.

I wasn't sure whether it may be the excessive wind we have had this year?

Or is it a disease?  Looked up in my books and no one mentions raspberries!

Any help you be appreciated!

My raspberries are not ready yet, but what you descibe is happening to my loganberries.

Given the different geographic locations, I presume it is due to cold/wind/chill factor.

I'd go for wind damage - I've seen a lot of it on the farm as it's one of the few things you can't spray for! Normally green fruit gets bruised, doesn't develop on the bruise & then rots before the rest of the berry...

We are a completely different climate but our rasps go moldy when there is too much rain. I've read that farmers will cover their crops to keep them dry. I have half a mind to try it myself since the plants are unusually loaded with unripe berries this year.  A poly tunnel would be just the ticket.

Thanks all of you for your input!

I think the general consensus is the weather!  Having looked again this morning some are coming good!  Thankfully the blessed wind has died down - I am so sick of wind - seems to be every day!

This year we have had a lot more wind from the east and more particularly the north east and as it comes in over water it is pretty chilly so maybe that is it!

Unfortunately with Wimbledon and Glastonbury on this week - should be wet at some stage!!!!!

Can't believe the sun will shine and ripen both strawberries and raspberries!  We shall see.

Thanks again
