Hi all

I've been away over the weekend and have just come home to find several things flopping in the heat...Japanese anemones, melianthus, cirsium thistles etc.  I'm off out to apply some emergency water but it always surprises me (although it probably shouldn't by now) how just one hot and breezy day can wring all the moisture out of my sandy soil! So when I'm next wondering why I'm trying to grow all these drought resistant lavenders and artemisias etc during a typical summer week of endless rain, I must try and remember days like today!

All best, Iain

Know what you mean Iain - we are fighting a losing battle trying to keep the plants in our garden going during this heat.  Hose pipe is ok, but you can't beat a nice drop of natural rain to perk everything up again.  I have definitely decided to go for more drought tolerant plants in the future.

Happy gardening all...........Pat

Hi Pat

A losing battle is how it feels sometimes! Still extremely windy here today and came home to find most of my cerinthes and several other things completely broken & flattened! Out with the hose pipe again as other floppy things tonight (strawberries, lobelia). I was briefly in one of those 'why do I bother?' moods but, thankfully, it doesn't take much to remind me why I do bother - cos sometimes it looks wonderful!

Cheers, Iain
