Just back from lottie, found two of my Tomato plants growing tips shrivelled up. The plants look perfectly healthy apart fom this and have just set their first truss. There is a plant either side of them and they look fine. Any ideas?

Northener, Have you tied the tips to tight or damaged them in any way as you know it is the tenderest part of the plant. This one of the reasons i never take of my top sucker till the next one above it grows, so if i damage the tip i can let the sucker grow on.

No never touched it Davy. Only thing i can think of is i gave them all a water misting yesterday morning, not expecting the sun coming out. Wondering if its scorched them. I have a few spare plants to replace them but i'm a bit nervous about putting them in until i know whats killed them.

are they dry brown and shrivelled, or dark green and shrivelled?
You couldn't make it up!

northener

Its hard to say really Tony. Why what you thinking?

tonybloke

dark green and tightly curled is a GOOD sign! ;)

NORTHENER, Does this description fit

The tender part has gone a dark ( traffic light ) green and the stems have curled downward at the ends also the leaves have inwards and downwards

Hmm maybe but obviously with it been the growing tip the flowers were also dead. I've showed them to a couple of folk on the lottie and they're scratching their heads aswell. Anyway they are out and the newones in. Whats baffling me is the rest of the plant was so healthy, it seemed a shame digging them up but they only had 1 truss each.

Not a good picture did they look like this

I have not a clue, i came across it last year and now one has appeared in my greenhouse. Like yours its just the growing tip but there is a truss forming so i am going to leave it for a while and see what develops. As far as i know there is only one thing that causes it and it an aphrid but i cant find anything.
I will give it a spray after i protect the other plants and see what develops.

I now have clue after having a closer inspection. I think it may be Cucumber Mosaic Virus.
