I'm new to this myself so can't really reassure you if an allotment is good for you or not, but the 3 nearest plots to me are run by people well into there 80s, I'm 35 years younger than them so don't mention that I'm hurting, but would be happy if I was still doing my allotment at there age!

Please be aware that having an allotment can turn you into an old person, all in one afternoon!!!!

I went up my plot a relatively fit and healthy woman but came back not even being able to stand upright. Lol

It has been raining for the last two weeks and today was a lovely warm sunny day so, fool that I am, I decided to get as much planted as the car would carry.

Tomatoes went in, as did several b/nut squash, winter squash, summer squash, 2 rows of leeks, 1 row of carrot seeds, 16 strawberry plants, 2 rows of broad bean plants (in bud), 20 celeriac plants, 4 sorts of lettuce seeds, raddish seeds and spring onion seeds, nasturtium plants, French marigold plants and I helped put on a shed roof that had blown off a neighbours shed etc etc......

All this was done on my knees. Bare in mind here that my plot is so covered in couch I should mow it (despite 2 treatments with glyo) so I weeded as I went along.
When I had finished I crawled to the edge of my plot to the bean sticks and hand over hand pulled myself up.

Even an hour later I still cannot stand up straight

Could anyone please reassure me that having an allotment is good for me?

;) ;D

Just taken over my lottie and still digging out grass weeds nettles you name it it's there.
But you know what, I love it.
And you know what the best cure is after working hard on the lottie.
