Does anyone have any advice / tips for growing celery ?

difficult one, for us, we've managed to grow it but it's been a bit strong and stringy, still okay to cook with
we planted ours in a trough about 2" deep, they like moist, water-retaining soil that's been prepared with rotted compost, keep them moist or they bolt  ;D
after that, you're as wise as me  ;D

Self-blanching varieties are easier to cultivate ... no messing round with trenches and blanching ... the disadvantage is that they are not hardy and will therefore succumb to the first frost.

ours were golden self blanching, nice taste, just  bit too strong  ;D

Self blanching Celery should be grown in blocks so they assist in blanching each other. While they like plenty of water you can over do it, little and often is my rule, as they are prone to heart rot.
To get longer plants put a collar round them when they have a good girth, one third of the plant exposed. Take the collar of regularly and remove any side chutes.
Celery is very attractive to slugs which can ruin the whole plant even if it is mature.

If I don't bother to blanch them will the celery still be alright for the freezer for stews ect?
