Still time for leeks?

I planted out my first lot of leeks last week and was planning to sow a second lot. When I look at the packets they say sow Jan-April. Last year I sowed some on 9th June and got a mediocre crop. Any tips for sowing now, inside or direct? I've got Autumn Giant and Lyon Prizetaker.

I would always start them off in cells caroline. We have som eready to go out on sale next Sunday (Plug, Plug!!)
