Potting on Sunflowers, help please

I'm transplanting my Sunflowers into individual pots and was wondering if they can be planted deeper like Tomato plants can?

Think of the consequences if you potted it a bit deeper then lost the tallest sunflower competition by 1cm! 8)

They wouldn't win the tallest sunflower competition anyway they're only going to grow to about 30 inches high  ;D
