Please can anyone identify this plant that was growing in Trevano Gardens in Cornwall.  The leaves, branches and thorns were very like a gooseberry but the flowers looked very different, similar to a fuchsia.

It was in a flower bed rather than with fruit but I am convinced it must belong to the goosegog family.   :D

Thank you Calendula.  I did a search of the name you gave and it is definitely the shrub I saw.   It is so unusual to have gooseberry foliage and fuchsia-like flowers.

I have never seen one before and would love one.

The flowers do look like fuchsia but the leaves look like currants the stems like gooseberry.

Calendula must be right.

Can't wait for a photo of the fruit!

Perhaps someone who lives or will be visiting the area around Trevano Gardens, Cornwall will be able to go and take a photo of the fruit.  It was growing in the Italian Garden.

I was on holiday when I came across it.  However, I will be looking out for the plant in my local Garden Centres as I have read it attracts the humming bird hawk moth.   ;D
