Ponds & associated wild beasties

Can I ask questions about our new pond here??  It's next to our veggie beds.....
My husband wants to construct some kind of habitat that pond-dwelling animals can use for shelter/overwintering, etc.  Like a "frog hotel".  Has anyone got any good suggestions about what we could use, where we should situate it, etc?
