I can't find one of these in the bookshops so can anyone please tell me step by step how to grow garlic.
Please don't assume I know anything.

Sorry, I've just looked again at the GW advice and I think there's a lot I would disagree with - in particular planting depth and starting indoors in cold areas - most garlic doesn't mind cold.

I think this is more like it.

and some garlic prefers being planted in February according to the Isle of Wight Garlic Farm

Hi...
You can still plant your garlic cloves..but you will only end up with a bit larger cloves...but hey..you can still use them..and green leaves you can use up like you would chives..and they are really strong tasting!!
And those which do not get used up let them mature and when the top growth has died down...lift them up, dry them and re-plant them next autumn..next summer (2009) you will have proper size bulbs and cloves.
Garlic needs long growing season and cool winter months to form proper bulb size and to develope into cloves.  That's why they are normally planter during october-november.

Thanks for the advice. I can wait till autumn, plenty of other things to worry about for now.

Gary.
