My sister wants some strawberry plants to grow in hanging baskets at home. So i offered to dig some of mine out for her from the allotment. Now i realise i don't know where to start! How would i go about doing that exactly (any hints/tips appreciated)? and is it an ok time to be trying something like this in the W/Midlands? (oh BTW my strawbs have been growing in a wandering patch next to my path (no fancy planters or 'arrangements')

I would use a good hand trowel and dig down next to the heart of the plant and then scoop the whole single plant out, you can always take of excess soil once it is out in one piece

Thanks for the advice folks, the operation was a success - the patients are now sitting on our balcony awaiting the hanging baskets. Lots of dangling strawberries for the summer! (fingers crossed) :D
