If it can be proved who abused these guys then the full weight of the law should be applied. It is not important as to which faith insulted the sevicemen. The point is it was said at all.

This is truly an odd world and nasty things happen to all sorts of people. But what really gets to me is when a group of people harass and intimidate another group. Either way.

There will always a pimple on the ass of every race / faith and its those people who need to be dealt with HARSHLY by the rest of the community as a whole. If you cannot fit into another persons way of life and live in peace with them then go back to where you came from and dont try and drag us all down to your level.

It should be up to the people of Peterborough (all faiths) to feel ashamed and do something about it. Awful place.

Sorry marky, but I used to work in the NHS during the 60s and 70s.  Enoch Powell was Minister for Health during that time, and I remember the Deputy Hospital Secretary commenting that he was the best Minister he had known.

Having never known who Enoch Powell is, I had a look at some sites all about him.

WOW, this man saw the future of Britain.  Very impressive man by the sounds of things. Shame they didnt listen to him back then. :D

His views on how immigration would turn out in this country if they didnt listen then is so true today, the statistics were right.  He does sound like a truly amazing man!!


I used to live near Peterborough, surrounded by RAF bases and one army barracks.  My family still live there.  Walking round a supermarket with a good friend in full soldiers uniform, we were taunted and followed around the supermarket with them singing Soldier boy etc etc.  We held our heads up  proud and carried on doing the shopping.  It was very difficult to ignore, and for me to keep my mouth shut and say something back.

The shocking part of the above story, is that its mainly children.  This generation do not remember the war.... or even know what Remembrance Day is all about!!!!. 

Again, I think the education system is failing!!!...

Don't forget that you are an immigrant but you are a white protestant so I don't suppose that matters.  BTW, is you family here because apartheid ended?

The NHS in the 60's was something to be proud of whoever was responsible, today it is a disgrace.

It is immoral to blame all Muslims for all the evil in the world,I have no doubt there are some pretty disgusting ones, but is just as daft to say all Scots are mean, all Welsh are illiterate, all Poles are stupid , all Americans are pushy,all South Africans are racially prejudiced and all the Irish make bombs.

It is equally immoral to throw abuse at servicemen My husband years ago was Raf and I never remember any abuse..It is against our faith now to be involved in any kind of warfare, we don't fight,we don't vote, we have no political views or aid any warfare in any way,BUT..the ideals that govern our beliefs as  stated would also condemn  us being rude or abusive to those that do.

The Canadian  who wrote the earlier epitaph is not typical of any Canadian I know. We lived in a very cosmopolitan area of Canada and we all got on with one another.She says " I'll care when"......and then waits for someone else.Personally I care now,because I belive it is right to care , not for any other reason, and to wait for someone else to be able to care is sad. Our neighbours came from all over the world, never in 30 years did I remember anyone with the views that she had.

Our globe is small,if we embrace each others differences there is no reason why there should be trouble and it has to start with tiny steps...if we think the guy down the road is no good, be better than him.........maybe his children will  see that and learn a better way.

I have never been able to understand the view that one man is better than another whatever the argument...different certainly but not better, and to get back to the original point it is wrong to yell at anyone,serviceman or otherwise.

I have some views on the NHS. The specialist who has repaired my tendon was not white-but I had every confidence in him-it was his skills that I needed-the colour of his skin was entirely irrelevant.

The quality of post op care was fantastic-there were others in much more pain than me and they were checked and helped on a frequent basis.

It`s the little things that annoy. When I arrived for my pre-op tests there was no wheel chair available,it was only when I basically said "sod this" and started crawling down the corridor did someone go and find one. Needless to say I have hired one now.

From my understanding of the incidents, its not a matter of religion, but a matter of age.

Its 16/17/18 year olds that have no respect and that crosses all races.

When the Government suggest they SHOULD wear their uniform in public, does that include their weapons ?

I am disappointed that there are so many racists on here and I feel sorry for you.  Your lives must be full of hatred and to the extent that Valmarg wants to leave the country!    It doesn't bother me that we live in a multi cultural society but it obviously bothers some of you.  I take people for who they are regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, colour etc.   

On the subject of servicemen and their uniforms, I think it should be up to them whether or not they wear it away from the base.  I also think they need a lot more support out in Afghanistan if we are to win this war against the Taliban.  When I watched the Ross Kemp programme I was amazed at how small a force we had there.

That's the very point Rosebud was trying to make, don't you see?  People all too often do associate racism with colour which is obviously wrong.  People need to research the word racism a bit more before banding it about so freely.  It's a word that's used far too often these days against people wishing to express their views on many things - a lot of which are NOT racially motivated.

Rosebud, myself and my dad had a very long phone conversation about this thread earlier today and pretty much agreed that no matter where a person comes from, if they give respect they get it back.  Otherwise, not a chance.  Personally, I don't care what people think of me for my views on that but I don't tolerate bad behaviour or manners from anybody - foreign or not.  Neither will I accept excuses such as not being able to criticise a foreigner because it makes me racist because it doesn't.  If your distorted view of racism reflects your own thoughts, keep it that way and don't try to make it mine.

Agreeing with Lorna & Jeanine, do try to keep this debate open and non personal, it's much better that way.
