If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

these are peat-free, also from kay's: peat-free jiffy 7s
I haven't tried them myslef but I'm quite tempted. I don't know who makes them though...

n a kay  30 mm 500 for 19.50
38mm 1000 for 41.90
42mm 1000 for 43.58
plus p&p

Rosyred

what do you grow in them that don't like root disturbance?? I saw them in Wyevale 30 for £1.99 and 60 i think for £2.99

gunnerbee

sweetcorn, good for cucumbers too.

I start lettuce, toms, peppers, aubergines, even cabbages..means I can grow them on to a size where, if slugs strike, we manage to get a decent crop  ;D

Deb P

I've never used these before, can I ask a couple of questions; how do you label each plug, is there room to stick a label in each one? Also, has anyone used the peat free versions, ?any good?

i get people to save me the ready-meal dishes and put peat pots in them you can put six in those!! , i then water from the bottom, then i put a label in there for all of them! i put individual labels in when i put them in bigger pots! i buy the 38 mm ones for bigger things, you can get smaller ones for lettuce etc. everything ive put in them have come through and seems happy!! have had trouble in the past with potting on cues and courgettes so it saves waste in the long run, and now ive got a bigger lottie this year, it saves the time of pricking out everything.

I found that I was getting through the Jiffy 7s too quickly and that they were going to bump up the cost of my veg.  I've since made mini pots out of newspaper and they are working just as well.  I pop the paper pots into seed trays that have individual cells (wilkinsons) - looks nice and tidy, also keeps them all upright.

Jeannine

I use them for almost everything except very large  beans. I buy the smaller ones, from Kays by the thousand.

They fit into a propogater very easily with no wasted space. If you wish they will fit in a cell tray.

I have used them for years and would not start in anything else frankly.

I use a piece of venetian blind as a tag and put it in the propogater at the end of the row of Jiffies if I am doing more than 1 thing in each.

Even the smallest ones are big enough for even the largest squash or corn seed and most of the smaller beans.

Jeannine,
If your seeds dont germinate do you re-use the pellets with fresh seed and/or different seed?

Jeannine

Yes I do actually, but not if the seed was big in case it had rotted and left residue in the soil. Same or different.

Jeanine, id love to know how much you can get 1000 38 mm pots for?  im on a mission to find a cheaper supplier, regards sarah.

Jeannine

I got mine from Kays. I don't know of a cheaper supplier, there may be one, I haven't bought any for 2 years now. This box will last me a long time.
