Morning my lovely hatton close buddies, how are you all doing today.  Isn't the weaher lovely like usual in swindon.  I am getting annyoed with it now.  I am dying to get down there to get things started but it is so waterlogged and impossible to dig at the moment. I have put my small raised beds up just waiting for the horse poo to be eaten by the lovely worms and dig it in then I can think about whats going in them.  I am still trying to get hold of the council regarding wood chips and also I beleive that they can deliver fresh compost aswell, but I have left about 5 messages in the past 2 weeks with no reply so not impressed.  I am also waiting to hear if we are going to get new fencing there aswell.  The only good news I have is that I finally got a shed, which will hopefully be going up tomorrow at the lottie so I will have some shelter, but otherwise my greehous is full of things ready to plant out and no where to put them

Ladies
i popped over to the Hatton Grove lottie yesterday and there was a ton of chipped bark been left ( presumably by the council ), it has been left  near my plot ( big shed ). by the looks of it it was a fir tree as it still has a lot of green still in it.

Fluffnco

oooo * claps hands* is for all of us to use or did someone pay for it?  :o Was there today with one of the residents from work and saw the pile opposite mine :))

caseylee

is there any oppisite mine do you know I requested the chip bark for my site to do the paths

caseylee

its is for all of us to use, typical council I asked for it about two weeks ago as I wanted to get my paths done, and have not been able to get hold of her since, will pop down in the morning, I am getting annoyed with the council cause I can't get hold of emma the phone is never answered or its always engaged.  Any news on your site fluff

Fluffnco

not managed to speak to her so hey ho and I now have cards to say I am tenant of all 3 plots too lol  ::) Surprised the council couldn't come up with a bit more considering the amount of tree felling they have been doing over west swindon....caused havoc with traffic on a morning too lol

caseylee

went down today to do the paths, I used stacks and there is still tons of it left, it doesn't even look like I have made a dent in it, at least the council did one thing I asked for.  I am trying to find out out delivery of fresh compost that someone says they do, but still no callback, I have also heard that they are looking to supply all the allotments in swindon with a shed for each site, but again no callback about that, and my last moan the fencing I asked about still no comeback about that yet.

penlope

hi yes i am from swindon & have just been given 3 allotments which are going to take a while to sort lol. i have spent 4 days trying to get a rotovator from every source to no avail ! so me & a friend have spent hours digging today - at least we manage to get 2 dug over and it looks like someones actually atempting to do something ! where abouts in swindon are you ?

caseylee

Hello penlope
Most of us are based in hatton grove in the parks, welcome.  I battled to get a rotovater but my husband surprised me today with one which cost 140.00 and included a hedge trimmer and a strimmer ( all petrol) so I am over the moon, will be doing y lottie as soon as it clears up outside

Fluffnco

hiya Penlope where abouts are your allotments? :)) Nice to have another swindon allotmenteer in our midst too :))

penlope

hi all, yes i am in the parks- cranmore ave =ripon way  where is hatton grove then i have never heard of that place, spent all day today got 2 lotty's diggeg & roto'd god i got wet 2 and thought the lightning was gunna kill me of lol

caseylee

we are not to far from cranmore avenue, if you know buckhurst field its just behind there closer to sussex square side of the field, tucked away nicley, I didden't know there was one at cranmore avenue, whereabout there is it

penlope

hi do you mean that yours is by the dome ? mine is inbetween rushton road & ripon way but you come of cranmore theres about 50 there, as your quite near if yiu hear of any one whos selling a rotovator could you let me no !

caseylee

we got a brillaint deal on our rotovater, go to screwfix which is by bookers wholesale, and you buy a petrol hedgetrimmer and you get the petrol strimmer free, and then you can buy the attachment head rotovater to go on it and its all 160.00 ( I haven't found a rotovater that cheap even on ebay) and you have everything for the lottie.  If your is like mine I have tons of blackberry bushes behind mine which the hedge trimmer will take care of, then I have the petrol strimmer for the little bits at the lottie but its more for my home garden, and the rotovater which a really good one.  We tested it on a peice of our garden yesterday and it tore straight through the ground no problem at all so very happy with it.  I am now broke till payday lol

penlope

well you see thats were the prob lies i dont drive and have very little funds lol so i am hoping with the word of mouth gets around & someone will all of a sudden say oh i have one ! its a pity we could not start a borrow club in swindon for all us lotty lovers

caseylee

I know the feeling I don't drive either so I know how you feel, I was very lucky witht he rotovater cause Imy oh bought it for me, he did tons of overtime and surprised me by taking me to pick it up, on a normal month there would be no chance at all.  I like the idea of a borrow club, I think the council should do like a hiring service for this to help newbies like us out, I though a allotment was nice and cheap until all the things I started buying lol

penlope

yes but you no what they say speculate to accumalate lol, i am just checking the local friday ad mag there a couple on there so just wait and see, me and a freind have dugg 2 of the lotty.s so 2 down 1 to go, but i am trying not to work in the rain as i spent 2 weeks in hospital with numonia in  jan so i dont think my  hubby would be happy

Fluffnco

ok where has everyone gone? ;) Not got down to the plot in past week. Took car in for MOT test on Thursday which it failed :(( so now I'm carless until 13th when work is done and it's retested. Thinking about getting bus over with my trusty fork and spade tomorrow if weather perks up. got to get a bit dug over for the potatoes if nothing else...getting depressed now

caseylee

Hello eeryone
I went down to the lottie yesterday and today for 2 hours each as oh was on nights.  Started rotovating the first plot, my little mean machine works a treat and really broke the clumps down well.  Added a little bit more woodchip to aroundmy raised beds, and started diggind beds after where my raised beds are for my broad beans, and dwaf beans, just wait for that to dry out and then oh can rotovate them and smooth them out.  Beware though we have found tons of red ants on the site, but after we dug them over theya re gone they hate the light. My greenhouses at home are overgrown with runner beansm broad beans and tomatoes, and my cucumbers and gherkins are coming up now aswell.  my poor back is aching at the moment from all the digging and shoveling of horse poo, and all the planting at home today.  My potatoes are doing well, I planted them at home in a raised bed and they came up today.  I might see you at the plot tomorrow fluff, I am going down with the boys mid morning if the suns out.  But then I am at work the whole of next week.  Oh should be putting my shed up thois week I hope I am dying to have it up.
