How was the manure Caseylee, was it worth the look?

caseylee

didden't get up cause my company had to have my paperwork sorted today, and then 100 things went wrong at once like usual, I am going to try and get up there this week and look dependant on the wether

gardening-gal

Why does work always get in the way of a good manure hunt LOL
Never mind, I did wonder whether you would bother actually with the weather the way it is.
Is everything okay with you?

caseylee

Yeah, but I am getting tired of not being able to do anything at the lottie cause of the rain.  I managed to paint tow of my raised beds but I still have another 4 to paint, but I have to wait for the rain sto stop.  HOws your lottie going at the mo

gardening-gal

Really good, I'm aching a bit from all the digging and weeding but its looking good all dug over and a blank canvas.  Have been asking for scaffold planks on freecycle to make some raised beds and have been asking people where I can get hold of pallets to make some compost bins.  I asked in our co-op the other day, the manager looked at me as if I was a looney LOL.
Like you its just a case of waiting for the weather to get a bit better.  I need to start sowing some seeds soon.

caseylee

I was quite lucky with my pallets, I got them off freecycle, and my husbands friend is a master with wood so we made me some raised beds, he has made 6 all together and still going.  THey are not the large ones, but they are  the perfect size for a shortie like me lol.  My oh dug over the plot half way last week and he is still aching, I have mowed my second plot, and started mulching it so that I can put my raised beds down once they are painted.  You do so much work and it still feels like you are getting no where.  I have tons of seeds on the go at the moment, but my poor greenhouse is full of onions and my whole kitchen looks like a forest, lets hope we have a summer this year

gardening-gal

How big is your allotment? although the amount of work I am doing at the moment is tiring I really wish I had a full plot, (mainly because I am having to clear it of weeds) My plot is 8mx10m I'm not sure what that is in rods or whatever the term is.
I want to grow some spuds but I want to grow lots of other things aswell and I just don't think I am going to have enough room.  I expect it will be at least another 4 years before I get another plot. :-\

caseylee

i'm not sure of the exact size of my plot, but I have a full plot, I did have a half plot to begin with, and then the guy next to me just packed up and left and there was no waiting list so I got that one aswell.  Its really good cause I am starting to work for the council doing bank shifts so I get discount on them aswell as I get a swindon card with my job.  Where me and Fluff are, there is still about 4 plots left I believe, I was told on taking it that the soil was rubbish hence no waiting list, but my soil is lovley it cumbles in you hand.  When I got my first plot in October there was only two people out of thirteen plots avail, now fluff has two and another member of a4a has one, and there is a guy next to me aswell so its starting to fill up nicley.  Someone gave me a tip on potatoes, get some tyres and plant your spuds about 2 in each as it grows add another tyre on top and carry on building it up, and when everything dies back push the tyres over and there are your potatoes.  Its saves space and you can put it right at the top of the lottie, I am going to try it this year my tyres are down there waiting to go.  I was lucky and got about 8 tyres free from freecycle, I gave them a good wash and they are waiting for planting.

Fluffnco

Caseylee when I signed up for my two half plots there was only plot 7 available according to the records the girl had......might be worth giving them a ring or would you prefer a plot next to the one you have Gardening-gal?

caseylee

I believe plot 1, 7, 13 and one other one is avail when I got my second one, but fluff you have seen  plot one and 13 who would really want them they were horrible wern't they, we all though it was just a path with blackberries on it, and plot one is just as bad, plot 7 is the same as ours so its a nice one

wiltshire lass

Hello caseylee
im not far from swindon,im from calne. :)

gardening-gal

To be honest I'd prefer to stay on the same allotment, just for the fact that its convenient, it wouldn't worry me whether I had a plot right next to the one I have. Otherwise I would be wasting time traveling.  When the weather is better I will be walking up to the lottie after work for an hour and then pick my daughter up from school.

Thanks for thinking of me though :)

Hi wiltshire lass have you had your allotment long?

wiltshire lass

i dont have a allotment i am lucky anough that i have room in my garden to grow what i need.we moved here last year its only my second year of gardening ;)so still very much learning

caseylee

Morning Wiltshire Lass
How is everyone today, well today my poor allotment is again going to be neglected as my boys are off school with a ear infection.  But I might sort out the greenhouse and get some more room in there.  What are you growing this year wiltshire lass, cause all my seedlings seem to be dying off being inside.
