Hi Guys,

Hypotetical question to get the little gray cells working!

Q - If you had to walk away from your plot tomorrow, what would you do differently?

Would you want a different sized plot?
Would you lay the plot out the same way?
What would you keep from your old plot?

Mmmmmmm!!

Considering I have been trying for the last twenty to thirty years to get my plots as I would like them I guess I would more or less do everything as I do today.

That is having learned by my numerous mistakes why change anything??.

Then again as I do every year around July/August time when all the problems are about e.g. Blight,White rot etc ...............I always say

Right!!! this is my last year at this game!! ;D

Only to find come Oct/Nov I'm out with the spade and starting again  ;)

I would try to find another one and if that was not to be, I would find a way of growing at home, even if it meant in pots only.

I year when we were moving house we had to live across the summer in an apartment, it had a long balcony the length of the property but only 4 feet wide, I gew tons of stuff in pots and that fed my habit, mind you we could't move on the balcony, but we managed to grow enough for 2 of us that summer.

Given the thought, we are actually going to do that this year in the tiny garden I have anyway, I am curious to see how much I could grow at home if I had no other choice.

build my greenhouse sooner instead of waiting 2 years through laziness.

I would like the allotment we had when I was a lad back in the 50's which was our back garden, I remember my Dad growing all the veg we needed untill me and mi mates got at the peapods, and just a word about manure my dad only used our hen, pigeon and rabbit  poo nothing was wasted  :)

I would have planted an asparagus bed.  I think about it every year, then think about the two year wait.

THis is my first allotment ever, I think what I would change would be that I had requested a full size one first off, and also that I left the grass in the pathways so I cold mange it better, but there is still next year.

posie

Not had mine long, but would put my onions somewhere else, rotavate the lot from top to bottom and dig out the awful and somewhat excessive number of gooseberry bushes!and evict Frank and his mates the 8 legged freaks in my shed!   ;)
What I lack in ability and experience, I make up for in sheer enthusiasm!!!

Tin Shed

Walk away from my plot, Cambourne........they would have to carry me off kicking and screaming!!!!!!

Same here.....starting to look longingly at a third as nearly finished clearing the second. Why do you always run out of space! They are like Tardis's in reverse. They look big when you first take them on and then once they are cultivated it seems like there isn't enough room. I want extra space for a polytunnel!

Would of taken on another plot before waiting lists came into existence

I'd have got in a load of fruit trees from a specialist, and replaced all the rasps and strawberries. That way I'd have had a decent fruit crop by now.

Hi Robert... posted the Magnum yesterday when the site was down... got a ticking off from the missus... who says I'm giving too many of our favourite away!!!
I'd not wait until I was thirty to start...  ;D

Robert_Brenchley

Thanks. I was worried yesterday; I thought it might be my machine somehow.

Sparkly

I would have got a shed and greenhouse sorted out last year.

GrannieAnnie

Raised all the beds and put in permanent walkways.
The handle on your recliner does not qualify as an exercise machine.

i would get one next to the road so we can get manure more easily ( have to barrow it for miles well it seems like miles )

:) these are all the answers i would expect from such commited gardeners  ;)

I ask only because I face a choice.

I am considering moving home, only 30 miles but its enough to lose my beloved plot.

I have added myself onto the waiting list where i am considering going to and i should be able to grow some veggies in my newly enlarged garden (sandy soil) as well as having a greenhouse at home where i can potter around day to day. I have been fretting about all the plants i have put in my lotty and how best to proced for next year and i am all of a tizzy about what to do for the best for what to plant this year (it was going to be low maintance planting anyway) but if and when we move it might be june/july and i will only be able to get back and weekends to harvest and move stuff :(

My current lotty is mine till september, i might be able to stall them kicking me off till feb which will mean that i can move my rhubarb, asparagus, fruit bushes, fruit trees etc After all i am leaving the shed, greenhouse and raised beds :)

The lotty on the new site is another brand new facility like the one i moved to 3 years ago and there is no guarantee i will get a plot when it opens later this year. Although if i were to get a plot i have a better idea now how to 'hit the ground running' which would mean that perhapse i could establish a plot quick - i am very confused !!!
