Up to you. What variety are they? There's no need to panic; they do go on growing after producing flowers. My Aquadulce Claudia always start when they're smallish, though not at the size they currently are. I'll be putting in a diferent variety soon.

What do you folks mean by broad beans? Is that like a Romano flat bean? I've never heard of beans that grow through the winter.

I think the translation of broad bean is fava.

Some varieties can be planted in the autumn, at least in areas with our mild winters, to get an early crop.

I've got peas 10cm high as well - earliest I've ever known them.
For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

I have had to pull a couple of broad bean plants and they have just grown so big, no flowers yet though.

Mine were Douce de Provence peas - planted in November, which I thought was too late, and with no protection, despite the cold nights.
For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Cambourne, Whats big?  One set of mine are about 20inches tall and I'm wondering whether to pull them up and compost them.  The rest have been nibbled quite a bit and I'm wondering whether to pull them as well or to see if they recover.  J.
