polystyrene beads??

this may be an odd question but does anyone have any suugestions as to uses for polystyrene beads (from cushions). they are very small -   1-2cms and i dont want to just dump them if i can use them.
we have some and my other half thinks we've seen something about them but i can't find it, and he can't remember where he saw it.

I know some people use broken polystyrene as  crocks in the bottom of plant pots so that could be one use.

If you store potted plants over the winter months try putting the pot in a larger empty pot, then running the beads into the gap formed by the two pots.

Voila you have cavity insulation!!

Again with potted plants use it/them as a decorative mulch which would ward off fungus fly.

Chances are it might turn green as algae forms due to the watering process.

If they had been smaller e.g 3mm(1/8") diam you could have mixed them in compost to open the texture up.

Soory I can't suggest anything else!!

I have seen them mixed with compost for houseplants as they retain water.

Another none gardening use if you are into crafts.

I put a handful in an bottling jar with a handmade Santa when shaken it looks like a snow globe.
