Can anybody please advise me on what I can use for grow lights. Can I use ordinary strip lights suspended over my seedlings? Do I have to dole out big bucks for the *proper* posh lights the professionals use?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Not that I use it much anymore.

When I exhibited my wares and needed to push stuff on I used to use it, but now I just let things take their course.

And this is the reply I made on another thread three days ago

My thoughts on light intensity is this; plants will grow on a dull days, but very slowly, suggesting to me that any increase in light intensity must be an advantage choose how strong or special the bulb is.

There is another thing and that is; plants are affected by day length rather than intensity of light (although this helps) so what I do is time my lighting so that it comes on two hours before sunrise and goes off two hours after sunset.

But then again the exhibition onion/leek growers grow in silver foil lined cabinets and their lights are on 24/7

So to me it is more a matter of choice rather than a necessity.

It depends what you require?? you can have a flo batten fitting like the one shown as they do do a lamp called true daylight to go with them colour 860 tube i think, or you can go for a highbay fitting with a hqi lamp but if the green house is small it wont be suitable, go to your local electrical wholesaler (not b&q the robbing gits) wholesale price for a 5ft will be around 8/9 £ + vat.

And tee gee the clips you require to hang you batten are called monkey puzzles
today i will be growin veg!!
