What perpetual strawberry variety do people recommend please?
I tried Elan this year, and they cropped extraordinarily well until a couple of weeks back, but the flavour was disappointing and the bite rather hard.
Thanks.

I gave some strawbs to someone last year, mine were tastless but theirs were gorgeous. She put hers in a tyre tower.....better drainage with the rain we had this year. But also she put lots of manure in when planting them.

I think it depends on the soil they are in to the taste you get, I will be adding lots of manure next year and making sure the drainage is good :D
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

antipodes

This year I tried Mara des Bois, brilliant, good yield and delicious flavour, and even better was a French strawberry type calles Cijosee but i don't know if you can get them? it gave good sized fruit and has only stopped now because of frost!!
The mara made loads of runners too, i was able to build a whole new strawberry bed.  ;D
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com
