Hi all..I've got a south facing greenhouse which is normally empty over winter but this year I've tried an experiment of growing Broad Beans. So far they are about a metre tall, so you never know what might happen!!

Is anyone else growing anything in theirs?

cheers

I'm trying salad stuff but it isn't happening yet.

our poly has chinese leaves, red mustard, mizuna, mouli radish, winter salads, parsley still going, I'm like you, have to have something growing all year, just to help through winter  ;D

I'm trying lettuce and early peas in a pot

calendula

mines stuffed as usual - mizuna, mibuna, lettuces, mustards, peas, grape cuttings, fig, apricots, spinach, seakale, anything that'll oblige really  ;D

The one at home's heated & insulated, plus a sand-bench with a warming cable in it, so we can over-winter fuschias & pelargoniums, plus loads of cuttings.

But I've got lettuce coming on to grow in the GH at the allotment. (The one at home is too warm & damp, so they get the fly and mildew.) Hope it works - this will be the first year I've tried it.

But I always use it to bring stuff on, late winter/early spring - peas & broad beans, plus some french beans in large pots.

Thanks for the replys..could anyone tell me what they expect to be able to use in winter and which is just to be given an early start?

I suspect my Broad Beans won't produce beans till spring/summer..by then they may be very tall :o

You may find you will have to hand pollinate your broady flowers with a fine haired brush .A blusher brush I think they call em works well ..Or a rabbiits tail ..
Cheers .. Jim

I've nearly completed my project of growing lettuce all the year round. For this I have had a lettuce available to eat every week of the year. This would be very difficult without a greenhouse. I've also got four cold frames.

I've also got broad beans in my 'house but will probably plant them out to overwinter with a bit of protection.

I would be very interested in earliest sowing times in an unheated greenhouse.

These were all grown outside over winter last year... the carrots had a bit of fleece but that was all..
