Ain't been out in Wombwell for a year or so now. Wetherspoons always looks fairly busy from outside, though..

The day will come where the building of 'outdoor' smoking areas will become the norm and eventually be fitted with TV, a bar and heating and will slowly take over from the inside area. Then we'll have one pub with a seperate smoking area. Why can't we do that now?
Why are pub prices so expensive? 'Cos many landlords are out to make as much as possible before they're forced out of business.

Keep your comments general, FL. Maybe I will stop smoking one day, but it will be my choice made when I decide to make it and not through intervention from government or anyone else.  ::)
I very rarely go into pubs in the UK, can't do with wall to wall TV, boring people, crappy 'music' and kids running around out of control, not to mention the cost. You could accuse me of being an 'Old Pub Type'..I probably am. I used to like the pub bar banter with workmen straight out of the mill the fields or mines, a pint of decent beer, the odd game of Dom's, darts or Crib, activities that helped to fill pubs, now it's bar snacks kids and lager drinkers all telling us how much they earn at IT...very boring. Bring back the Tap Room!
The odd private clubs I do go into all have a ban, no problem, I can do without a f*g for an evening...but I choose to go in knowing the rules.
I cover around 70 miles a week using legs, push-bike or cart and I don't use one ounce of carbon doing it....but that's another issue.

We went as a family to a pub for lunch when we were on holiday in Somerset recently. It was a fairly nice and sunny afternoon (do you remember that one - what were you doing that day ;D), and we sat outside to enjoy the outdoor country air. Most of the tables were occupied by people smoking, and in the end, we had to go indoors cos of all the smoke  :(

I stopped smoking nearly four years ago, and there's no way I'm a smoking Nazi. As far as I'm concerned, if you want a f*g, fill ya boots (to mix a few metaphors  :D) but it seemed really weird that the inside was smoke free, but outside was really cluggy!

Thats unbelievable, let me get it right, you went back inside because of the smokers outside?  Robin i don't have a local as such i frequent a few. My brothers drink in Lockeys so i'll pop in there and mates go in either Oak, Kg's or Prince all 4 are dieing midweek. I'm not a big fan of withers but i no what you mean packed outside at weekends but not many inside only those dodging the fumes outside no doubt.

No prob's, FL....Last night, my birthday night! I sat here and killed what was left of the bottle of porto on account of someone supped all my Leffe the day before...wonder who that was.  ???
