What does everyone use that's  not expensive to support netting etc. bearing in mind its to cover brassicas so needs to be quite high.  We did one raised bed with the metal poles from a plastic greenhouse and this worked really well and looked great - was quite impressed!!  cheers pammiep

I have never used supports - even for PSB.

Hi there

For enviromesh, I use blue water pipe cut in to lengths and pushed in to the ground to form an arch.  Depends of the width of the mesh, but mine is 1.5m, so have to take that into account when thinking about height.

Blue water pipe from Screw Fix about £25 .

Lady of the Land

Wooden stakes from B+Q 2.4m x 8 cut in half therefore make 16. Can get for about £8-9.00. Can re use year to year.Plastic balls from toy shop (type used in ball play area) can get 100 for about £6.00 - cut small hole in to place on stake to stop envirmesh rubbing on stake.

I have those multi coloured balls on top of my wooden stakes and bamboo canes. They really do stop the nets from tearing and they looking very colourful too  :)

So do plastic tonic water bottles - they are free and prove that we drink lots of gin  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for all your brill. ideas.  We have just been given a huge roll of Debris netting a friend "found" on his building site. Does anyone else use this and does it stop some of the light?

I just use canes, netting and cheap clothes pegs - there was a big thread, not too long ago, on debris netting somewhere else on this list (can't remember where)  :)

Just a point about the width of enviromesh. I use fishing line to sew lengths together for wider beds. I'm currently using a piece for a 5m x 5m bed.
