Hi,

I have started my Japanese onions sets in the cold frame before planting out and some have inch long shoots on them, having only planted them a week or so ago. I notice that I also have many that have grown mould on them. How can I avoid this? Thanks.

What sort of mould? Some poor sets will go mouldy in storage.. but not normally once they are growing?

Was there air flow through the cold frame or did you keep the lid down all the time?

I say cold frame, what I really meant was plastic greenhouse... sorry. The onion sets were fine before I put them in the compost, I checked them first. I did water them, was I supposed to do that? Yes, air gets into the greenhouse.

any particular prep for over-wintering onions and garlic? or can i just stick them in?
